Born in Youngstown, Ohio to first generation Polish immigrants, David’s interest in jewelry began in 1973 after being exposed to Native American jewelry making while exploring the western United States. Since then, he has studied and obtained various certifications from the following establishments:
• Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, San Francisco, CA
• Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad, CA
• American Gem Society, Las Vegas, NV
• Gemvision, Davenport, IA
• GRS Training Center, Emporia, KS
Key mentors throughout his career were Gerald Mack (Baker City, OR) and Hal Davis (Boise, ID). In 1984, David established his custom jewelry design and manufacturing business, DJR Designs, in Boise, Idaho. He created platinum, gold, diamond, and gemstone jewelry for Hal Davis Jewelers until 2011. While accomplished in traditional forging, fabricating, casting, and repair techniques, David has embraced CAD (computer aided design), CAM (computer aided manufacturing), and laser-welding technologies since 2002. His passion is collaborating with his client’s vision to create personalized heirloom pieces. Recently, David is exploring his longtime interest of watches, knives, knife making, and hand engraving.
When not designing and creating, David enjoys an active Northwest lifestyle of cycling, Nordic skiing, hiking, and camping. He also savors travel with his partner, Nikki, an anthropologist, wherein he can seek out source materials like amber in Poland and jade in Guatemala. David’s two sons are also involved in his jewelry business; Stephen is instrumental in marketing and recently David is enjoying apprenticing Daren while he obtains certification from the GRS Training Center.
